When collecting becomes a Collection

Just part of  one of my Collections
Kitchen Utensils and Enamelware are my weaknesses...
Unfortunately they are all  packed up now, safe and secure in a box ready to be opened and used again one day again when I have my next little farm house.
Any other Enamel Junkies out there?   Jane?

  1. Hand up. I LOVE enamelware and I love all yours. I've been inspecting your photos very carefully. LOL I have a similar bowl to your blue floral although mine is deeper. Seeing these takes me back to all those meat pies my grandma made in her old enamel pie dishes.

    1. I do love the floral, I have a few more scattered around my house with florals, one I actually keep my soap in!

  2. Such an amazing collection. I hadn't seen pretty floral enamel before. They are lovely. I particularly love the syphon.

    1. They are quite hard to come by these days Deanne, and when you do see them they can be quite price! I have been collecting for about 15 years and most of it was collected when I first started.

  4. Ah, just been sighing over your table full of goodies.I am remembering drinking fresh warm cows milk handed to me by my grandad in one of those enamel mugs - I wouldn't drink any milk unless from 1 particular cow that I liked and in grandad's blue and white enamel mug.
My ultimate weakness is cream and green enamel ware. And the good thing about it is it doesn't break like glass bowls and pie plates do.

    1. Cream and Green, Yes! That would all be packed up in the box next to this one, I used to have it displayed on my old kookaburra stove. I also have quite a bit of it, it is my favourite too...I also have a splash of Orange, Red, Yellow and a few pastels plates and bowls...

  5. I know I am going to get a smack over the knuckles for saying this BUT when I saw them I thought about the lovely fun my kindergarten class would have exploring them, using them to mix up their sand pies, twirling the old beaters. I must keep my eyes open for some for them to play with. I do have some retro red enamel ware which I adore!

    1. I love the red to, I have a couple of pieces....and yes the kids would love it, I sometimes let them sit in the kitchen and have a bash on my pots and pans, they are pretty hardy objects. :)

  7. It's pretty hard to find here because most people have tossed theirs in the garbage in favor of non-stick cookware. What a waste, in my opinion. I'd take enamel over non-stick any day.

  8. WOW, what a wonderful collection of enamelware you have. I have just a few pieces, nothing wonderful but they make me happy. I did find the most amazing light aqua coloured old enamel jug/pitcher in France at a local fair. It cost me the princely sum of Euro 8.00. It came home in hubby's suitcase packed with boxers and socks. I like old aluminium colinders too.
I hope your next farmhouse comes sooner rather than later so you can display all those delicious old homewares again.
Take care and enjoy your Sunday,
    Anne xx

  10. No enamelware for me unfortunately but I do have a lovely bundle of old hand beaters like yours! melx

  11. Enamel no, but I too love egg beaters - and use mine all the time.

  12. I love enamelware too, I like cooking with it and have my nannas pretty ones to make apple pies in, just like she did. Am selling some of the kitchen stuff I don't use because we really have no room for it. How I love old kitchen things though.

  13. I love enamelware too. I have a rectangle dish (I see one in your photo too) that I use for rice puddings and my Mum used the exact same dish for her rice puddings too. We also use enamel mugs and plates for camping.

    1. I meant to mention that I have this lovely "milk bucket" (that is what I call it anyway) that I found at the thrift store in perfect condition.

  17. What a collection! I have a bit of kitch-in foolery, a little enamel, a suppression of pyrex but have been stifling the magpie in me for lack of space.
Have you considered investing in a welding tool and creating some amazing metal sculptures for your next farm!?

  18. Great Idea Annie, We have one, just might get hubby to teach me how to use it! xo

  20. Love your beautiful old enamelware, I have a few pieces and use most of them.
I would most certainly look at joining a few craft groups, when I lived on a farm out of town and had small kids,it really saved my sanity, to meet some people with similar interests, as we knew no one when we first moved there.
Fingers crossed you find what you are looking for soon and can start again on your own patch of home grown food.

    1. Many thanks Margaret, I'd love to find a craft group in my area although my problem is the children are just a little to small for me to indulge myself in that way yet. I have met some lovely mums and kids through playgroup and there is lots of messy craft going on there which fills that void for now. Everything seems to be falling into place a little ore now. :)

  21. I love your collection. We have this fantastic place called "Die Blikplek" in a nearby town. (Translated from Afrikaans - The Tin-can
Place. They take old battered enamel and tinware and turn it into art, mostly garden art. Recently I have started buying a few not-so-old enamel bowls to se as planters for gifts. And then I found a lovely billy can...

  22. Wow! That's a huge collection. Who would've thought kitchen utensils are that interesting? I'm completely awed by all these.
