Look who popped out to say hello this morning...

My speckled hen has babies....I've only seen this one so far. She is sitting on about 6 - 8 eggs so I can't wait to meet the others, it's just like having your own bub, its so exciting to see what they all look like, especially as these eggs would be quite a mixture from several of my hens.

Look at dad, eagerly pacing the coop.....waiting for the next arrival....

  1. Oh gosh, thanks for commenting on my blog, because now I've found YOURS! What wonderful pictures and your kids are ADORABLE! Five of them, wow - that you have any time left over to blog, let alone garden, is simply amazing to me! lol
Congratulations on your baby chicks!!! I've had my flock of 10 (initially 12, but rehomed one and one, sadly, died) for almost 3 years now and I've never had a hen go broody. No chicks for us!
I'll be back to read more. :-)

  2. Awww, I love chicks! I hatched out 13 chicks from 3 hens this year - our flock keeps growing and growing! Plus I used a chicken hen to raise a flock of guinea fowl. It's just so exciting to see the first babies! I remember how all the chickens had to come take a look at the chicks - it was an exciting time for everyone! Congrats!!!

  3. I find that my Bantams go broody very easily, so we've always got a chick or two hatching somewhere in the coop...Speckled Hen is bantamX. Last head count of her little chicks was 7, I think there may be two more eggs, however I don't think these will hatch now....
I have some Guinea Fowl on order, I have heard these are very good for keeping away snakes!?
