Oh the joys of a cold, rainy, miserable Winters day. . .
When your stuck inside . . . Crank up the Oven & BAKE
A rare treat for us here, a cold rainy day on the weekend meant a very productive day in the kitchen. Baking most of the day means the house is as warm as toast.
Most of our baking get sliced and packaged up into freezer bags and containers. I simply take a slice or two out of the freezer and pop them straight into lunchboxes for the children and Hubby everyday. When they stop for a lunch break they have home baked goodies as fresh as if it they were just baked that morning.
Hope your keeping warm, and dry!
Pop on over to Hazel's Place to see what else you can enjoy about Winter.
WOW! That is heaps of baking! Great idea to have it all pre sliced and ready to go!
ReplyDeleteHi, I'm new to your blog site, and I have to say, I adore it. I too am a busy mum (of 3) but also a paid work working mum, trying to live simply, while combining the two "jobs" I live for the day when I don't have to work at paid employment, and can stay at home full time. Your blog provides me with so much joy and inspiration, thanks it's always great to see others living simply
ReplyDeleteMan would I have liked to have been at your house! The aromas must have had the neighbors come knocking, even though you live in the country. Do I see poppy seed something?
ReplyDeleteExcuse me, I need to go raid my cupboards looking for something sweet now.
You've certainly had a productive baking day! I used to devote whole entire days to baking every few months and would stock up the freezer. This was when I was first married and had no kids :) I really should try and do this again sometime.
ReplyDeleteYum ~ everything looks so good. I do that too in the winter months here, cook to warm up the house. I also make extra's and freeze whenever possible. Everyone say's I'm frugal ~ I just smile and say I'm smart:)
ReplyDeleteVery impressive - looks delicious. I'm going to try and be that organised too!
ReplyDeleteI wish I was sharing a piece of your yummy cake with you right now:)
ReplyDeleteHave I told you lately that you are AMAZING!
xo
That's impressive, home baked lunch box treats reminds me I should double or triple a recipe and follow suit, thank you.
ReplyDeletethere is nothing better than a bake up on a cold winters day!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad I'm not the only one who freezes things!! DH and the kids rib me endlessly about baking and putting into the freezer. Well done, its definitely the way to go, we're doing Anzacs (is that what they are?) today as well.
ReplyDeleteHave a great day :)
If I lived at your house,I'd be the size of a barn. All I can say in one word is "yummo".
ReplyDeletethings that make my heart go all warm and fuzzy are rows of preserves in jars and home baking..yum
ReplyDeleteThese types of days are always best spend in the kitchen :)
ReplyDeleteI love keeping our tins and freezer stocked too, especially when you get unexpected visitors.
x
Rainy days for us mean productive work in kitchen too. But never productive like yours;-). Wow thats a lot of baking.
ReplyDeleteI'm no expert on Australia (but I know you guys make the very best soap operas and TV series), but I can always count on you having the absolute opposite of weather. I live in Latvia, that's North-eastern Europe and right now we are having one of the hottest spells ever, so it brings a smile to my face to read that it's cold where you are. I cannot possibly imagine baking anything in this heat, we're basically living on ice creams and such, but I will surely try this (although I must say I have never imagined one can freeze cookies or baked goodies! Never! Dough yes, but not the finished product. So it will take some getting used to.)
ReplyDeleteI don't think I've ever really thanked you for sharing, it's a different world and still we are so very alike.
Anzacs? Yum!
ReplyDeleteOkay, you've inspired me. Back to school on Monday and NO packaged treats. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteThat all looks gorgeous and since I have 4 more days away from work i believe you've inspired me to spend my time baking!
ReplyDeleteI had to run over and read your kitchen warming post... could you send some of that cold air towards Kansas? Our expected highs are 105F today through Sunday and that's what they have been for almost 2 weeks. We are baking, but mostly when we go outside. : ) Everything looks so yummy and lovely!
ReplyDeleteIt is so yummy dish you shared with us. I cook it before two days. And added so much chilly powder and turmeric powder because I likes its test so much.
ReplyDeleteOh my, with all that baking I am surprised you didn't have people knocking at the door and begging to come in. Yum.
ReplyDeleteGlad to have sent some inspiration out to so many of you...
ReplyDeleteYes Michaele, that is my Quick and Easy Poppy Seed and Orange cake, I shall do a post with the recipe soon.
Happy Baking everyone :)
That's impressive!! I can't wait to get an oven. It's been so annoying to be without one this winter.
ReplyDeleteThis all looks so yummy Karen. I'm sure you all enjoyed the baking day. I think Qld'ers are all keen on baking when it is cool for a change! cheers Wendy
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness what a bake up! I have been thinking about this for a while, not quite to your scale, only 3 of us, but hubbie would LOVE to have a little baked goodie in every lunch box not just once a week. Thanks for the inspiration, it is certainly cold enough in Tassie at the moment to warrant it :)
