A Giants Garden

This is not what I expected when I planted my Button Squash seeds a few months ago...

Nowhere on the packet did it say they were Giants Buttons....!

I'm thinking it's my new miracle grow fertiliser.... Sheep's poops! Everything in the garden is so productive, these little squash went form normal size to oversize in just a couple of days, and they are totally the Sweetest Squash I have ever tasted!
Nothing in comparison to last years crop.
YUM!

  1. They look wonderful. Not likely I will find any sheep poop close by though.

  9. I'm a big fan of sheep poo too! I once asked my Italian neighbour what he used on his amazing garden and he told me "sheep manure" so i've been using it since, with mostly good results! Fab looking squash!

  10. Wish we had some sheep poo round here, just horse and duck. I get so excited about manure bags on the side of the road! Great looking squash - so pretty.

  11. Those are spectacular. You almost have to carve them for dinner! We are having trouble just keeping our vege patch alive here with the heat and the lack of rain. Any tips on daily maintenance?

  12. Annie, I probably should have mentioned I also use lots of chook poop and WATER!!! I go out to the garden most arvos at about 5ish when it's cooled down, it's a lovely time of the day. The children and I water, weed and pick off grubs whilst snacking on fresh beans and tomatoes :) This is my first real productive year so I'm pretty excited, and just love hanging out in the garden, and that's probably the secret, Putting in the TIME!

  13. Wow, they're enormous! And to have them still tasty when they're so big is a true achievement! Just wondering..are you game to plant a beanstalk in that garden of yours? ;)

  14. DO NOT FEED THAT STUFF TO YOUR KIDS...the sheeps poo, I mean. They will grow up and out too quickly.

  15. I think it's putting in the water! We don't have water near the patch and we probably do need to water daily in this heat. I'm using the straw mulch and chook poo from the coop. Do you get yours to break down first of just plonk it straight on?

  16. I also use Sugar Cane Mulch, and I use the chook poop straight from the coop, I do however use the old dry broken up stuff. When I plant my seeds I also use a good scoopful of dirt straight from the bottom of the coop...This seems to give them a good start...We live on acreage so are reliant on our own water, we do have to watch every drop but at least we do not have any council water restrictions which also helps... :)

  18. Wow! That's amazing. I'm so jealous, after our early (minor) success, our vegie garden seems to be on a downhill slide:(
